WATERCOLOR & INK

Trying to capture the colors in this beautiful Iris I saw and fell in love with. I don't know its name but I am going to try to find it.
One thing I was forced to leave out due to my own lack of knowledge were the white spots around the darkest purple edges of the falls.
I tried some techniques...gouache etc and they didn't work...I will have to do some more experimenting...:)

POMERANIAN CARD

My neighbors are having so many Birthdays this month.
This is for a neighbor who has a Pomeranian.
Kind foxy looking huh?

I thought I would share why I am doing this.
I live in an apartment complex now, for people aged 62 and older.
There are 28 people in the whole complex...some very active...some not so much.

There was a time in my life when I was a single mom raising my two children, and I had a very responsible job with a title of Assistant,
however I was doing all the work while the person above me never left her office. I was exhausted at all times, and very discouraged with my low salary.
It was a Preschool and I was in full charge of 250 children under 5, and 25+ teachers.
It was a pretty thankless job, but I had one teacher, an elderly woman, who would place a nice CARD on my desk every morning.
All the cards were cheerful and encouraging, and lifted my spirits.
I vowed that someday I would do the same for someone...given the right circumstances...and I have decided
that these are the right circumstances....:)

My neighbors are keeping me busy with their Birthdays!
This is a Birthday Card in Watercolor and Ink.

I think she will like this ...her name is Lucy...maybe I should have painted her a Sky with Diamonds...:)

Unfortunately the yellow is too strong here and I can't edit it out. The greens are greener on the card.

I was painting from memory when I did the other card, but I got a better look at my neighbor's doggie and it has a more ''puppy'' look, so I did another card...I think this one looks more like her cutie...:)

Too much stuff going on here but I posted it anyway....It all started with trying to figure out how Sandy Maudlin uses the tape in her examples on her blog...I love the Batik look she achieves with it.
I cut artists tape into little pieces and put them all over the flower, then painted over all the tape with Indigo...the idea being for the paint to seep around the edges and leave the ' batik like' markings. First mistake was using artist's tape...it would not tear. Next time I will use masking tape as she suggested in the first place!!
The background is done with dabbing the wet paint with crumpled saran/plastic wrap...then using some white ink.
I'm not happy with this but am posting as an example of techniques etc...:)
I love Sandy's work and her Blog...http://sandymaudlin.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2010-05-02T21%3A03%3A00-04%3A00&max-results=10

FUSCHIAS FUCHSIAS EXPERIMENT

FUSCHIAS FUCHSIAS EXPERIMENT

FUCHSIAS/FUSCHIAS....EXPERIMENT
This is an old painting I was never satisfied with, so I decided to use it as an experiment with Unryu Rice paper.
I tore the rice paper into interesting shapes and laid the rice paper over the painting.
I diluted Acrylic Matte Medium by 50% with water. Using an old brush I painted the Matte Medium over the rice paper until it adhered to the
painting.
I like the interest the rice paper threads give to this painting.
The painting is Mixed Media using Watercolor, Ink, and Oil pastels.
This is another idea from Rose Edin's book ''COLOR HARMONIES...PAINT WATERCOLORS FILLED WITH LIGHT''

I spelled Fuchsias/Fuschias two ways because I find that there are now two acceptable ways to spell it!!!!
I guess it is kinda like Ketchup...if you spell something ''wrong'' long enough, society will eventually accept/change it.
Maybe some of you might be old enough to remember when ''Ketchup'' was spelled ''Catsup"...:) :)

LouiseArt..SUNFLOWERS EXPERIMENT3

LouiseArt..SUNFLOWERS EXPERIMENT3
Lots of things going on here....not only in this painting but....My computer crashed...so I am learning all about my new one and also how to get a picture from my scanner to here with a new photo editing program...my brain just isn't as quick as it used to be about all this techie stuff!!!!!
I have some new ART BOOKS....and will be experimenting a lot....:) This is my first try at this technique, and I think it can be done so much better and way more exciting...:)...soon I hope.
This painting is partly done with cheesecloth for the background...my first try. but I will do better soon, now that I have learned some tricks. The book calls for 'gauze'...but I thought the cheesecloth would work...I went ahead and posted this even though I have learned so much about what to do and not to do with the cheesecloth...I can do much better next time...I hope.
Here is How I did this: I masked off the drawing of the sunflowers....then I wet the whole thing and spread cheesecloth over it..then used a lot of paint on the cheesecloth...all sorts of colors and designs...then let it dry COMPLETELY....peeled off the cheesecloth and rubbed off the masque...and painted the sunflowers. Then did some spattering too...:)
This is from Rose Edin's book "Color Harmonies...Paint WatercolorsFilled With Light''...I met Rose years ago in Modesto, Calif. where I lived, when she did a weekend class at the Central California Art League. She is one of the sweetest ladies you could ever meet, and a fantastic artist!
I highly recommend her book!
