EXPERIMENTAL POPPIES

I tried all sorts of fun things with this...and it turned out nothing as planned, but it was a lot of fun!

Everywhere I look, artists are painting poppies, and I didn't want to be left out...:) :)

Watercolor & Ink Painting
This one is more true to the color of the painting!

JAPANESE MAPLE IN SEMI ABSTRACT

JAPANESE MAPLE IN SEMI ABSTRACT

I was thinking of that beautiful old Japanese Maple tree in the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon, while I did this painting.
If you have never seen this tree, DO put Portland on your bucket list....and see the Rose Gardens too...:)

This is painted in Watercolor & Ink.

CARDINAL CARD

CARDINAL CARD by Louise001

RED CARDINAL CARD

A Birthday card for a neighbor. Painted in Watercolor & Ink.

My Birthday Card Story...with a question...:)

When I moved to this apartment complex here in Michigan on June 1st, 4 years ago, retired, and planning to no longer have obligations, I was very pleased with the thought. My career had involved my own business which required very long hours and even being on call 27/7. I was a Behavior Specialist working with children.

As soon as I set up my art studio I had the idea...''wouldn't it be nice to paint Birthday cards for my neighbors''...all 28 of them.

I wanted this to be an act of ''free will''...and it was. I painted a card for everyone whether I knew them or not, and they all found one at their door on every birthday for 4 years.

Recently, I have found myself not wanting to do this anymore ... it has become like an obligation...because I have people REQUESTING their cards and telling me what they want me to paint for them...which has taken away the fun of it. I was enjoying using my imagination to think what they might like and also the element of surprise...for myself and them...and some of the cards were hard to give since I liked them too much...:)

Therefore, this will be my last Obligatory card....:)

I have been bothered by my attitude about this.

I wonder if those of you who are artists understand this?

Something about the bright cheerful white of daisies that makes a garden ''pop''...:) The daisies are just starting here in Michigan.

Years ago I raised Persian cats...and I had a beautiful Chinchilla Persian who had the most gorgeous blue-green eyes with black rims.....I was trying to remember her with this little Pen & Ink and Watercolor, that went toward the whimsical side of my nature...:)

PEAR PLAY

PEAR PLAY

WATERCOLOR & INK
Unfortunately as often seems to happen with the yellows...the scanner did not pick them up as well...and I cannot edit the orange out...these pears are more yellow than orange in the original...:)

As a teenager I lived in Lake County in northern California, and was allowed to work to earn some of ''my own'' money.....my parents didn't give ''allowances''.....One summer I worked in a "Pear Shed''.....sorting pears on a moving ''belt''....At that time Lake County claimed to be the Bartlett Pear capitol of the world......some of the pears that were unblemished and beautiful were left on the belt to be shipped to market, some that were not quite so great were tossed to another belt that was to go to the canneries, and the worst pears(and I do mean worst) went to a ''baby food'' barrel.....to be shipped to the baby food makers of the day, which is why later on, my children got mostly homemade baby food.
This was in the late 50's...and hopefully by now quality assurance and competition has stepped in and forced the baby food processors to ''take it up a notch!''...:)

QUEEN ANNES LACE or HOGWEED

I always knew this as Queen Anne's Lace, but in some areas it is known as Hogweed. I prefer the sound of the first one....:)

This is done with Watercolor & Ink....:) It was great fun.
I have been uninspired lately and hope this is another beginning of a new painting obsession...:)
