A bit of an experiment using black acrylic squeezed from a tiny tipped ''gutta'' bottle.
Watercolor was spattered on for effect of leaves.

I had two Olive trees in my yard for 20 years in California. I cured my own olives, which were delicious and an old family tradition.

SKETCHBOOK MEMORY OF ARIZONA

I lived an hour south of Tucson in Sierra Vista, which was 30 minutes from Mexico, for a year.
I loved it! I loved the ''big sky'' and the air. Loved everything about it..the colors, the rocks, the cactus...everything but the heat.

Another Sunday Play day for me.
After watching my teacher Cathy Johnson's You Tube video about Quick Resists...here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHaxdQWVXO8

I decided to do an experiment using a white Crayola crayon...from my granddaughters Crayola box. I am staying at her house this week, dog sitting while she and her family are on vacation in Florida. Actually it is a working vacation for my daughter, and while she is doing her show a daddy/daughter fun time for the two of them.

I used all sorts of techniques on this including the Elegant Writer Pen, and I did like how the white crayoned places on the butterfly resisted watercolor.

I used watercolor, acrylic, crayon, and ink on this.

This is her lovely forested front yard this morning around 7 AM...:) Hooray for a SUNNY DAY!

I am working on a painting however...:)

A FLOWER FROM VIET NAM

A FLOWER FROM VIET NAM

This is a Birthday card I have painted for one of my neighbors.

She came here from Viet Nam years ago and has raised her family here, but she still speaks of the beauty of her country and still has some family there. After much research, I found this pretty flower and the following information:

Across Asia there are many flower traditions of the new year. In the south of Vietnam, bong mai is the festival’s ancient emblem. Savvy nurserymen will peel the leaves off the branches about six weeks prior to the new year, forcing the plant into bloom. Ideally, when one wakes up on Tet (Vietnam’s name for the new year), bare branches will have turned into a cloud of golden flowers. The street will begin with a garden of mai trees with yellow blossoms on them, the symbol of Tet in the south.
